Education is a lifelong involvement for Don Roberts, and he wants to stay involved.
Roberts said “there’s no one thing” that caused him to run for the Position 2 seat in on the Southern Lyon County board of education.
“My mother taught for almost 45 years and this is my 26th year,” Roberts said. “I’ve been around education all my life.”
Roberts began his career in education as a teacher at Hartford and Neosho Rapids in 1978-79. He also has coached football, basketball, track, girls’ softball, and Scholars’ Bowl. He currently is a counselor at Chase County High School and commutes from his home in south Lyon County.
Roberts said that he wants to do the best job for the district in all areas.
“I don’t have any axes to grind, I’m not after teachers’ heads,” he said.
Roberts anticipates that legislative changes will affect the district.
“With the legislation and all, there are a lot of challenges for the rural district that just need looked at overall,” he said.
