Reception for sculptor

An artist reception for Marshall Maude, who creates ceramic sculpture, will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. March 3 at the Emporia Arts Council, 618 Mechanic St.

New exhibit at Eppink

Opening March 5 in the ESU Eppink Gallery will be “Jill Reynolds + ESU Students Collaborative Installation.” Reynolds and the students work to “produce exhibitions that are unique and embody the traits and history of the sponsoring institution.” She will work with students from the art department, the science department and student volunteers.

At the library

The theme for Emporia Public Library’s “Family Night at the Library” from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday is “Hats Off!” There also will be stories and other activities presented especially for families. No registration is required and families with children of all ages are welcome. For more information, call Children’s Services at the Emporia Public Library at 340-6466.

Also, the Emporia Public Library winter Preschool Storytime theme for the week of February 26th is “Mittens & Hats.” Preschool storytime is Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m., and on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. for 2-5 year olds.  Finally, the Emporia Public Library Pat-a-Cake Club and Mother Goose Time Storytime theme for the week of February 26th is “Hats Off!” Pat-A-Cake Club is held at 9:15 a.m. on Monday and Thursday mornings for infants up to Eighteen months. Mother Goose Time is held at 9:45 a.m. on Monday and Thursday mornings for toddlers up to 36 months. For more information, call Children R17’s Services at the Emporia Public Library at 340-6466.

Author signing

Jerry Engler, the author of “Just Folks: Earthy Tales of the Prairie Heartland” will be at Hastings bookstore on Saturday to sign copies of his sequel, “A Heartland Vocie: Just Folks II.” The signing will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Engler is originally from Hillsboro and now lives in Marion. “Just Folks” was self-published in 2005 and won an award at the Kansas State Fair that year for the best locally produced book, according to Hastings.

ESU Music

The ESU Department of Music presents the ESU and Emporia High School Invitational Choir Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. On Friday, the Orchestra Concert will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Albert Taylor Hall in Plumb Hall. Tickets are $5 for general admission; $4 for senior citizens and students.

Mozart in Manhattan

Kansas State University Opera Theater will present the Mozart class “Cosi Fan Tutte” a 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday in McCain Auditorium. One of the chorus members is Sarah Priest of Emporia, a senior student studying music education.
