Tag deadline

Wednesday is the last day for people whose last names begin with the letter A to renew their vehicle registrations without penalty. It is also the last day to renew heavy truck tags and trailer tags without penalty.

Proof of insurance is required for all vehicles and a receipt for paid personal property taxes is required for heavy trucks and trailers.

The motor vehicle office in the Lyon County Courthouse is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Girls’ Night Out

The second annual Girls’ Night Out at Logan Avenue school will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Logan Avenue gymnasium.

“This year we will have a night of tropical delights for girls only,” an event flyer stated.

Stem cells

“Stem Cells and Their Possibilities” will be the topic for a presentation on Tuesday, March 6, at the Emporia Public Library.

Mary Pilcher Cook, former state legislator, will make the presentation, which includes a question-and-answer session. According to a news release from the Society of Emporians Exploring Key issues (SEEK), which is a sponsor of the program, Cook has done research on the topic and sponsored several legislative initiatives to fund ethical research.

For information or reservations, call Vi Heskett, 342-7964.
