Spaghetti for scholars
The Emporia National Education Association annual scholarship spaghetti supper will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Emporia High School cafeteria during the Emporia High-Highland Park basketball games. Supper will be spaghetti, salad, dessert and beverage. The price is $4 for adults; $3 for children under 12 years. To-go boxes will be available. The money raised from this event is used to sponsor two scholarships each year for pre-service teachers. Tickets may be purchased from any ENEA member or at the door for the same price.
Fish for Friday
A fish fry will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Didde Catholic Campus Center, 1415 Merchant St. The cost is $6 for a fish dinner; $8 for a fish and shrimp dinner; $5 for a student with identification. The cost is $3 for children younger than 10 years for cheese pizza or a fish dinner. Sponsors are the center’s Student Council. This a fundraiser for student scholarships and activities.
Scrabble Scramble
The Emporia Literacy Program is conducting the third annual non-competitive Scrabble Scramble, with games beginning at 1:30 p.m. and again at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m Saturday at the Flinthills Mall. Registration begins at 1 p.m. near the center of the mall. Participants may play as many games as they wish; the entry fee is $5 each game on the day of the event or $10 in advance for all three games. Prizes will be awarded.
To register in advance, forms are available at the Emporia Public Library, lobby of the Kress building, Emporia Recreation Center, the information booth in the ESU student union or the Adult Education Center, 620 Constitution St. Forms also can be printed at emporia.edu/biosci/literacy.
