Citizens will have a chance to speak their mind or share in a dream this weekend.
The events start Saturday morning with the “Eggs and Issues” legislative forum sponsored by the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce. Local legislators are invited to appear at the forums, talk about what’s happening in Topeka and answer questions from the public. The forum begins at 8 a.m. at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor. For information, call the chamber at 342-1600.
On Sunday night, the long-postponed community celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. will begin at 6 p.m. at First Christian Church, 202 E. 12th Ave. The original celebration, planned for Jan. 14, was canceled because of an ice storm.
Sunday’s main speaker will be the Rev. Bob Colerick of First Christian Church on “The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.” Inspirational words and musical performances will also be presented by students from Emporia High School and Emporia State University.
This is the seventh year for the community celebration. The night will also feature the 2007 Community Service Award, presented to Ron Slaymaker.
The event is sponsored by the King Community Celebration Committee. For more information contact Al Slappy at 481-9622.
