The Herington Lady Railers defeated the Chase County Lady Bulldogs, 46-32, securing their place as the third seed in Sub-State.
“I thought we played better tonight than we have,” Chase County coach Toby Baker said. “ Herington hurt us a little with their pressure.”
Stepping up for Herington were Kristin Kleinschmidt, Crysta Brockmeier and Chanell Makovec. Kleinschmidt had 21 points, while Brockmeier and Makovec each added 12.
It was Herington’s second consecutive victory, making its record 9-10 overall and 5-4 in league play. Herington will open Sub-State next week.
“It was a good game to build our confidence going into Sub-State,” Herington coach Jayson Emig said. “It was a tough one.”
Even though the Lady Railers came out with the victory, the Lady Bulldogs put up a good fight. Going into the second half, the Lady Bulldogs trailed by six, but their lack of scoring in the fourth quarter kept them from the victory.
Freshman Ashley Cahoone finished the game as the high scorer for Chase County, scoring 11 points. Unfortunately for the Lady Bulldogs, it wasn’t enough to make up for the loss of Heather Whitney and Maci Wells, who both fouled out.
