Give more for the train

Wednesday, February 21, 2007

AFTER THREE WEEKS of fund raising for the Sertoma train, the project is really speeding toward its goal. By Tuesday, the club had raised $15,800 of the $20,000 needed for the project. The club has been receiving donations large and small, and every donation is important.

One reason the fund raising is going so well is that the train has touched so many peoples’ lives. I enjoyed riding the train as a child and now I enjoy taking my kids on the train. It really is one of our community’s simple pleasures.

The $20,000 will replace the diesel generator and drive motors. But the fact is there are other issues that need to be addressed and Sertoma really needs to raise more than $20,000.

Sertoma needs to have enough money to do regular maintenance, make future improvements to the train, repair the tracks as well as make improvements to the depot and the engine house. To complete some of those repairs they have estimates for another $12,000

In reality, we need to try and raise $40,000 for the train project.

With almost a half a million dollars being invested in Soden’s Grove for a new baseball complex, we will want the train to be a nice compliment to the park.

Send a donation, large or small, today. Corporations are welcome to donate as well.

Let’s have this fund-raising project be a great community success and keep the train chugging around the park for many generations to come.

Send donations to Sertoma Club of Emporia, Miniature Train Fund, P.O. Box 593, Emporia, KS 66801
