The Flinthills Mall will be able to move an existing sign to its 15th Avenue frontage as a result of action Tuesday evening by the Emporia-Lyon County Board of Zoning Appeals.
The mall has installed a new sign at an Industrial Road entrance and was requesting to move the old sign to the 15th Avenue side, which has not had signage.
Chairman Bruce Boettcher questioned whether a moratorium now was in place on sign placements.
Secretary Kevin Hanlin told the board that work is underway to revamp zoning regulations and that it could be perhaps one year before changes are completed.
“We could wait a year or so and we could possibly have something done,” Hanlin said.
In the interim, variances for signs at other businesses have been approved.
Rick Hamman of Coffelt Signs told the board that because of the location and size of the new Walgreen’s building, the mall is more difficult to see.
“They’ve got to do something with it,” Hamman said.
The board voted 6-0 to approve the mall’s request.
The board unanimously re-elected these officers: Bruce Boettcher, chairman; Russ Schoenberger, vice chairman; and Kevin Hanlin, secretary.
