Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at Pyramid Pizza. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

Emporia Masonic Lodge 12 meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

Tuesday

The Junto Club meets with Janice DeBauge. Mary Shepherd will give the program.

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Etude Club meets at 1:30 p.m. for the Valentine Tea. The hostess will be Sarah Mounkes, assisted by Treva Stuck.

The Literary Club meets at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, with Jean Rogers serving as hostess, assisted by Helen Kassens. Roll call will be “My Favorite Instrument.” The program will be the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) music contest presentation. Guests will be members of the Parliament Club.

The Research Club meets with Norma Waddell. Jerri Pennington will give the program.

The Review Club meets for a Valentine luncheon.

Single Adult Fellowship group meets at 6 p.m. every Tuesday at Planet Sub, 2715 Candlewood Drive (east of Wal-Mart) during February Information: Sara, 342-5303.

The Emporia Charter Chapter of the American Business women’s Association meets at 6:30 p.m. for dinner in Room 205 of Kramer Hall on the ESU campus, after which there will be a meeting. The guest speaker, Myrna Stephens of the Kansas Department of Aging, will talk about “words and phrases not to use.” Those who wish to attend this or other meetings can call Sharon Ewing at 342-6868 for reservations.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980 meets at 8 p.m. at 932 Graphic Arts Road.

Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

Miriam Chapter 14, Order of the Eastern Star, meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St., for Advance Night degree work.

Thursday

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the ESU Memorial Union.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

The Emporia Model Railroad Club meets at 7:30 p.m. at 916 Arundel St. the last Thursday of each month. Those interested in model or prototype railroading are welcome to attend. Information: 343-8325.

Saturday

The Emporia Airport Action Group meets every Saturday at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the main terminal at the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport.
