Candidate forum
A candidate forum with those running for city commission will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in Room 118 in Visser Hall on the Emporia State University campus. The forum will be taped by Channel 8 and aired on Cable One Channel 20 at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 26. The forum is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, the League of Women Voters and ESU Associated Student Government.
Election day is Feb. 27.
Summer jobs at refuge
The Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge at Hartford is sponsoring a Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program, a summer employment program for those from 15 through 18 years. Four local young people will be hired for the eight-week program, with work hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, beginning June 12, 2007, and ending Aug. 3, 2007. Participants will be paid the minimum wage ($5.15 an hour) and are responsible for their own transportation to and from work. Most of the work will be outdoor work. There will be an adult supervisor working as the YCC Crew Leader and driver. Employment applications may be picked up at the Refuge Office or call (620) 392-5553 to receive an application by mail. Applications must be received or postmarked by 4:30 p.m. April 30. Participants will be selected through a random drawing.
