Lyon County commissioners received a positive financial report for the first month of 2007 during Thursday’s Lyon County commission meeting.
County Controller Dan Slater said Thursday morning, that overall, the budget numbers are looking good. Slater said there was some extra overtime that had to be paid out in January due to several snow and ice events.
Slater said January is a practice month for budgets because in some departments some items are paid in lump sums for the entire year, which makes a particular budget look off balance.
“Overall, they are looking good,” Slater said. “It was a good financial report. We didn’t have any major problems. We’re in good shape. We’re going to stay responsible.”
Other items addressed in Thursday’s commission meeting:
• Commissioners gave the approval to purchase furniture for the Aging Services Department at 402 Annex.
• Commissioners signed a contract for $14,000 with an architect firm. The firm is to design plans for the former Deer Trail building, which the Lyon County Extension will move into when completed. Slater said this could be around October or November.
• Commissioners approved used truck purchases from the Kansas Highway Department for $26,000.
