ESU softball wins Texas Woman’s Invitational

The No. 3 Emporia State softball team won its last two games of the weekend to take the championship of the Texas Woman’s Invitational, defeating Midwestern State, 2-1, in Sunday’s final.
After losing to MSU on Saturday, ESU rode the coattails of a dominating pitching performance from Courtney Reed to take the title.
The senior gave a complete-game effort, allowing one run and striking out 10.
ESU scored its two runs in the first two innings, with Megan Davison contributing an RBI single and Chelsea McClernon adding an RBI double.
The Hornets split their games on Saturday, losing 7-4 to MSU before beating St. Edwards, 5-3 in bracket play.
Samantha Sheeley picked up her second victory of the tournament against SEU, allowing two runs in seven innings.
Jennifer Dace paced the offense, going 3-for-4 with a game-winning, 3-RBI double with two outs in the top of the sixth inning. She also was 2-for-4 in the first game against MSU.
Courtney Stevens went 4-for-7 on Saturday with 3 RBI.
ESU (3-2) next will play in the Lead-off Classic starting on Thursday in Phoenix, Az.
