DAR award winner
Mary Yanik, the daughter of Joe and Betsy Yanik, has been chosen the Daughter of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award winner by Emporia High School for the 2006-2007 school year.
The Emporia Chapter NSDAR will honor Yanik at a luncheon in Feb. at the American Legion meeting room where she will be awarded a $100 savings bond, certificate and good citizen’s pin.
Yanik has written a Scholarship Essay which has been entered in the DAR State Contest. The winning essay of that contest will then be entered in the NSDAR Scholarship contest in Washington, D.C. The winner will receive a $3,000 scholarship and a trip to the nation’s capitol.
On dean’s list
Roy Scott Thomas of Emporia was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll at Johnson County Community College for fall 2006 semester. Those named to the Dean’s List have received one of the college’s highest honors, awarded to only three percent of its students. To be eligible for this list, students must be enrolled in at least 12 hours and earn a grade point average of 3.5-3.99. Thomas is enrolled in the National Academy of Railroad Sciences at JCCC.
Earns doctorate
Katie Teague has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Audiology by the PCO School of Audiology in Elkins Park, Pa.
Teague graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She completed her graduate work at the University of Kansas Medical Center, earning a Master’s degree in Audiology before beginning her doctoral studies at the PCO School of Audiology.
Teague is the daughter of Amy Roeder and Dave Ellison of Humboldt and Lonny Jasper of Burlington, and the granddaughter of Eunice Jasper of Emporia. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiologists and a member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association. A resident of Honolulu, Hawaii, Teague is employed as an audiologist by Costco.
