The Olpe Eagles held Centre to 12 points in the second half to secure a 60-29 victory Friday night at Centre.
While the Eagles led 21-13 after the first quarter, Olpe coach Chris Schmidt believed his team could have defended better.
“We really let them get some easy shots (in the first quarter),” Schmidt said.
Schmidt set the defensive goal to hold Centre to less than 30 points, and while the Eagles accomplished it, they were assisted by a running clock in the fourth quarter.
It was the first game for Olpe for nearly two weeks, and Schmidt said his team appeared to be rusty.
“You could tell we didn’t play for a week and a half,” Schmidt said. “We did some things good, but we didn’t shoot the ball particularly well tonight.”
Seth Pargman led Olpe with 19 points, while Cole Krueger added 11. Schmidt said Krueger had recently been more effective on both ends of the ball.
“He’s just got a knack on the offensive end,” Schmidt said. “He’s definitely gotten more offensive-minded down the stretch.”

Lebo boys 66,
Burlingame 48
Lebo used a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to seal a 66-48 victory Friday night against Burlingame.
The Wolves used superior post play to overpower the Bearcats. Lebo’s three main post players — Cameron Smith, Taylor Barker and Aaron Gillespie — combined for 44 points.
“We don’t have anybody to match up well on them,” Burlingame coach Creighton Winters said. “They dominated us inside.”
Burlingame tried to counter Lebo on the perimeter. While the Bearcats managed to hold Lebo to just one 3-pointer, they didn’t score enough from outside to overcome the scoring deficit.
“We knew we would have to be able to hit our threes to win the game,” Winters said, “but we only hit five.”

Council Grove boys 84, Mission Valley 28
Council Grove was on track to score more than 100 points by halftime but instead opted for defense late as the Braves dominated Mission Valley, 84-28, Friday night at Council Grove.
The Braves held a 52-22 halftime advantage, but coach Bruce Hula said he wanted his team to come out with a defensive mindset after the break.
“We didn’t do a very good job in our press (in the first half),” Hula said. “We didn’t press at all the second half. We defended in the half court.”
The change paid off. Mission Valley only scored six points in the second half, while Council Grove added 32 more to the scoreboard.
While the game was about as good as it gets for the Braves, Hula said it was the time of the year where any basketball team should be peaking.
“We’re at the end of the season where you have to play better,” Hula said. “We need to get better every half we play.”
Forward Blake Mayer led Council Grove with 21 points.
