The Coffey County Historical Museum could be closed as long as six months due to water damage discovered recently.
As of Monday morning, museum director Deborah Kenamore was unsure as to the extent of the water damage and what it would take to repair the damage. A Topeka restoration company responded on Feb. 2 to prevent further damage to building or artifacts. Employees viewed damaged area with thermal imaging cameras. While the damage seems to be concentrated on the north side of the museum, artifacts had to be moved to all areas of the museum, which prompted the entire museum to be closed to the public.
