A man was arrested today after his pickup struck a guardrail and a train at the BNSF Railway tracks and Merchant Street.
At 2:51 a.m. today, the Emporia Police Department received a call of a possible vehicle accident at the tracks. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 1995 Chevrolet pickup with major damage occupied by David A. Jones.
Investigation indicated that Jones was northbound in the 200 block of Merchant Street in the pickup. The vehicle struck the crossing bar of the signals at the tracks, then struck a westbound train which was passing through the intersection.
Jones was arrested at the scent and taken to Lyon County Jail. He was charged with driving under the influence and was not injured.
