Stories of White
“What I wish we knew: Reconstructing the William Allen White Back-Story” will be presented by Roger Heineken at 7 p.m. today in the large meeting room of the Emporia Public Library. Heineken will discuss stories and information not commonly known about William Allen White, along with anecdotal stories of his home and family and urban legends connected to the White family. This presentation is in conjunction with the 150th birthday celebration of Emporia. Hosts for the speech are the library and the Flint Hills Genealogical Society.
Singing Valentines
Emporia High School ’s Viva Voce will deliver singing Valentines on February 14. The cost is $15 each and customers have a variety of song choices. Call Sheree Stoppel at the high school, 341-2365, to place an order.
EHS Festival Mass
The Emporia High School Chorale and Orchestra will perform “Missa Festiva” (Festival Mass) at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26 in the EHS Auditorium. This is a five-song mass written by Kansas native John Leavitt, which includes Kyrie, Sanctus, Credo, Gloria and Agnus Dei. Dr. Terry Barham from Emporia State University will be the guest conductor and will work with students during the afternoon before the public performance.
The Chorale, Orchestra and Viva Voce will also perform several other songs. Tickets are on sale now for $5 and can be reserved by calling the high school at 341-2365.
Hawk Talk
The University of Kansas Office of Admissions and Scholarships is inviting high school students from across the state to “learn more about KU” by attending Hawk Talk receptions that will include information and prizes. The reception in Emporia will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Godfather’s Pizza, 1120 Commercial St.
WIC closed
The Women, Infants and Children’s program (WIC), 420 W. 15th Ave., will be closed for training the week of Feb. 19 and will not open until 8 a.m. Feb.26. Normal WIC hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
