A LeRoy man was shot and wounded Tuesday after shooting at Coffey County sheriff’s officers.
Aaron David Sutherland, 22, was arrested and is receiving medical treatment, the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning. The incident started around 4:50 p.m., when a call came in that an armed man in LeRoy was threatening family members.
On arrival, officers from the sheriff’s department and the Kansas Highway Patrol found Sutherland brandishing a gun. According to the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office, Sutherland shot at the officers when they tried to negotiate with him.
“An officer was forced to shoot the individual to protect the officers that were fired upon,” Sheriff Randy Rogers said in his report.
Sutherland remained in a hospital this morning.
The case is under investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the sheriff’s office.
