Hospital volunteers

WHEN I RETIRED from my retail business in Emporia, Mr. K’s Bike Shop and Fitness Center, I had a garden and Bike Museum for my new “extra time.” They were fine, but, there was still time left over. A friend asked me if I would volunteer at the hospital. I gave it a try and have been hooked ever since. Soon my wife was working there, too. We both like it very much. We meet many new and interesting people, see people we knew in the world of work, provide a service to hospital patients, staff and community and receive so much back personally.
Our local Newman Regional Health Auxiliary is always needing to recruit new volunteers. There are many services needed. Some services are “hands on,” while others are support services. Examples are: Snack Bar, Gift Shop, Flower and Mail Delivery and Information Desk as “hands on” jobs. Baking, sewing and Friends memberships are some of the support services. There is a place for you. To become a volunteer at Newman Regional Health, call volunteer coordinator Janet Haag at 343-6800, extension 2525. Won’t you join us? Call today!
