Herington made a fourth-quarter run but couldn’t quite make up the deficit in the six-point loss to No. 5 (Class 3A) Rock Creek.
“Overall, with the young team we have, I was very happy to see how our girls responded to our previous loss to Pomona,” Herington coach Jayson Emig said.
The Lady Railers hung close despite missing their starting point guard, Ronessa Strome, who was out because of illness.
Herington (7-8, 4-2) grabbed a 16-13 lead after the first quarter before a pair of Lady Mustangs (12-3) started to step up.

“We matched them every time they made a run,” Emig said. “They’re just a solid team.”
