Early this afternoon, rescue workers recovered the body of a rural Lyon County resident from a bin of soybeans in southeastern Lyon County.
The dead man was identified as Billy J. Hamman, 66.
Authorities said Hamman had been unloading beans from the bin and found that a crust had formed at the top of the bin. He climbed in to break the crust and fell into the bin.
A neighbor tried to help him out of the bin but was not able to get him free.
A call was placed to 911 at 10:53 a.m. and emergency personnel arrived at 11:12 p.m. The accident happened at 1942 Road 75.
Rescue workers cut five relief openings into the silo to drain the soybeans, but were not able to free Hamman before he died.
