Break out your dancing shoes and be prepared for the Annual Beta Sigma Phi Benefit Heart Dance.
In its 57th year, the heart dance is held to raise money for Newman Regional Health’s cardiac unit. The cost of the dance is $15. The dance will be from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Emporia Country Club. Money raised from the dance will be combined with the memorial fund in honor of lost loved ones. The money will be used at Newman to buy cardiac equipment.
Over the past 57 years, the dance has raised about $155,000 for Emporia hospitals, said Ruth Denny-Haig, chairwoman of the Beta Sigma Phi memorial fund. Of this total, $41,000 was given via memorial contributions. All contributions to the memorial fund are given with no administrative cost or expenses deducted.
“Last year we paid for part of the cost of the expansion of the cardiac rehab unit at Newman’s,” Denny-Haig said.
This year’s dance is semi-formal. The evening will feature the dance, card games and a silent auction. Music will be provided by Aaron Doty. For information and tickets call Mary Knickerbocker at 343-2339.
Donations are welcome and may be sent to Ruth Denny-Haig at 2061 Prairie Lane, Emporia, KS 66801.
