Former Emporia State coach Dave Wiemers has accepted the offensive coordinator position at Division-II Tarleton State in Stephenville, Texas.
TSU, a member of the Lone Star Conference, finished 6-4 last season under coach Sam McElroy.
“I am really excited about the opportunity to coach at Tarleton,” Wiemers said in a release. “The best attraction to this job is being able to coach for a winning program that has a legitimate chance to win a championship every year.”
Wiemers resigned as ESU’s coach on Nov. 16, 2006, following a meeting with his team. He spent eight years with the Hornets, including six as head coach, where he compiled a 35-32 record.
ESU suffered through a 3-8 campaign last year, losing its final seven games.
“I already miss being a head coach,” Wiemers said, “but I think I can bring a lot of value to this position.”
Garin Higgins was hired to replace Wiemers at ESU on Dec. 15, 2006.
McElroy said Wiemers would be a welcome addition to his staff.
“I believe he will add a lot to our program,” McElroy said, “and we are excited to have him lead our offense.”
Attempts to reach Wiemers by The Gazette were unsuccessful.
