Help with Homestead Tax
Meetings about the Homestead/Food Sales Tax Assistance for 2007 will be held around the county in February.
The schedule for meetings in the county, all from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., is:
Friday, Hartford Senior Center; Feb. 5, Americus Senior Center; Feb. 6, Olpe Senior Center; Feb. 7, Neosho Rapids Senior Center; and Feb. 9, Allen Senior Center.
Meetings in Emporia will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 12 at Broadview Towers and 1 to 6 p.m. Feb. 14 at Horizon Plaza.
Forms will be available. Proof of all income of the home, social security numbers, tax statement or proof of rent paid needs to be brought to the meeting.
A participant must be a Kansas resident and live in the state the entire year and qualifying income must be $28,600 or less. The refund will be claimed on the Kansas Individual Income tax return.
Other requirements that must be met:
• Be 55 years of age or older, or
• Be blind or disabled, or
• Have a dependent child under 18 who lived with the applicant all year and who can be claimed as a dependent.
