Public events planned tonight for New Year’s Eve include:

• The Emporia Arts Council will celebrate bringing in the New Year with musical entertainment, dancing and Italian-style appetizers in a bistro atmosphere at White Auditorium. Tickets are $50 each person or $100 each couple. At the door, tickets will be $65 each person or $130 each couple. Tickets include all alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages, champagne toast, “heavy hors d’oeuvres” and party favors. Black tie optional. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible. For tickets or more information, call 343-6473 or stop by the EAC, 618 Mechanic St.

• The Lariat — The Noose — 323 Commercial St., is planning a festive evening with drink specials, give-away gifts, hats, t-shirts and necklaces and more. At midnight, each partygoer will be given a free glass of champagne.

• Natasha’s Billliards and Lounge, 827 Commercial St., will welcome in the New Year with the band South of Town. The celebration also includes beer and shot specials, party favors, give-away items, prizes and free champagne toast at midnight. The cost will be $10 a person and $15 a couple. The party starts at 8 p.m., although doors are open at 4 p.m.

• The Sidetrack Saloon, 318 Commercial St., expects a “good crowd” to participate in drink specials and their usual serving of all kinds of food. Darts, shuffle board and pool are always available, along with weekly dart tournaments.

• Wheat State Grille is featuring string bands High Water and Shady Lane from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. They will serve their full menu, opening at 11 a.m. The New Year’s Eve party will include a balloon drop, dollar draws, party favors and a free glass of champagne at midnight.

• Town Royal and Bruff’s expect the usual, a “normal” day; Wagon Wheel will be closed.
