A Lyon County church has joined three Emporia churches as Angel Food distribution centers.

Orders may be placed at the Americus United Presbyterian Church from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday or from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Only cash can be used to pre-pay for food boxes at the Americus location.

The cost of Angel Food boxes will rise to $30 for orders that will be delivered on Jan. 19. The boxes of food, valued at retail between $65 and $75 each, rose $3 in price earlier this year after the Kansas Department of Revenue notified distribution points that sales tax must be charged on the orders.

The January boxes will contain: 5 4-oz. bacon-wrapped beef filets, 4 lbs. chicken leg quarters, 2 lbs. lean hamburger steaks, 1.5 boneless pork roast, 1.25 lb. meaty beef short ribs, 20-oz. supreme pizza, 10-oz. deli-sliced turkey breast, 3 lbs. fresh apples, 35-oz. French fries, 1 lb. frozen green beans, 1 lb. onion rings, 14-oz. ketchup, 26-oz. pasta sauce, 1 lb. pasta, 1 lb. pinto beans, 7.5-oz. macaroni and cheese, one dessert item.

Specialty boxes also can be purchased after buying one Angel Food box. The boxes will contain:

Box 1: 5-pound steak and meat combo box of 2 T-bone steaks, 2 sirloin strip steaks, 1 pound of lean hamburger steaks, 1 pound of boneless center-cut pork chops, and 1 pound of Italian sausage, $20.

Box 2: 5 pounds total weight, with 2 pounds of rib eyes, 2 pounds of New York strips, and 1 pound of hamburger beef steaks, $20.

Box 3: 10 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, $20.

Box 4: Senior Convenience Meal Box containing five individual dinner entrees (grilled chicken breast with rice and gravy, beef-chili macaroni casserole, macaroni and cheese, Salisbury steak and gravy, chicken tetrazzini), each with breads, milks, margarine, desserts and two side dishes each, $18.

Orders at the Emporia Church of the Nazarene, 2931 W. 24th Ave., will be taken from 2 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Orders at the Emporia Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St., will be taken from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Participants need to go to the Eighth Avenue entrance on the south side or to the elevator entrance on the north side and follow the signs to the office. Distribution will be from 9 to 10 a.m. at Spic-N-Span, Fourth Avenue and Merchant Street.

Orders also will be taken at the Grace United Methodist Church, 2 Neosho St. For information call the church, 342-2240.

Information about distribution times is available at the churches. Food that is not picked up at the designated times will be donated to charities.
