The Emporia Police Department is investigating the finding of a rocket-propelled grenade in the 1100 block of Merchant Street Thursday night.
Police received a call about a suspicious device in that block at 7:25 p.m. Thursday. Responding officers located the device, photographed it and sent the photos to Fort Riley’s Ordnance Disposal Unit, which confirmed that the device was an RPG.
The Ordnance Disposal Unit sent personnel to Emporia to retrieve the RPG, which was determined to be a military training aid.
Anyone with information about the RPG is asked to contact the police department at 343-4200 or Lyon County Crime Stoppers at 342-2773.

What is this towm coming to when we have to start worrying about these horrible weapons in this town? I hope that the police department can come down to the bottom of this.

why don't the gazette print a picture of what they found so we will know what the heck they are talking about, maybe let the public know what they look like, just sounds like something that I would like to have a idea about if I was to see one laying in the street

I can tell you what this was - seen them alot. It's a plastic training device used to show US troops what an RPG round looks like. They're solid plastic, NON EXPLOSIVE. You can probably buy them off ebay.
Definitely would scare the crap out of someone though.

"Military training device", "confirmed RPG". Which was it? It can't be both. Sensationalism in journalism is what it was.
