Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported that longtime Burlington resident Scot Jeffers was hired by the Burlington USD 244 Recreation Board in a special meeting as its new recreation director.

Jeffers will replace Steve Friend, who has been the center’s director for the past 29 years. Friend is retiring and has taken a job as Baldwin City’s recreation director. Jeffers will take the helm in Burlington on Jan. 1.

Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported that Coffey County Commissioners approved an agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation regarding the construction and maintenance of frontage roads in the Beto Junction area.

Under the agreement, KDOT will pay Coffey County $55,000 to purchase materials and perform work on three frontage roads that will parallel U.S. 75 north of Old Highway 50 and south of Beto Junction.

Madison

The Madison News reported that the Madison Ministerial Alliance will host the Fifth Sunday Sing at the Madison United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on Sunday. The Ministerial Alliance invites anyone who wants to come.
