A different story is surfacing in a shooting reported early Tuesday morning to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident, reported from the emergency room of Newman Regional Health, originally was said to have happened at the victim’s home at Hartford, when she reportedly knocked over a .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle that had been left behind a door.
“The victim’s injuries did not appear to be consistent with the stories provided by the witness and the suspect, so the case information was referred to the Lyon County coroner for consultation on the bullet wounds,” according to a news release Thursday afternoon from Undersheriff Richard Old.
“Further interviews revealed that although still accidental, the injuries did not occur in the home as originally reported, but in a motor vehicle in rural Lyon County.”
Old said that Christopher L. Indermuehle, 43, of Hartford was arrested for aggravated endangering a child under 18 and for obstructing legal process in a felony case.
A second suspect also is under investigation, and reports have been forwarded to the Lyon County Attorney for review.
The case was investigated cooperatively by the sheriff’s department and by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, the news release stated.
“It is anticipated that this investigation may ultimately result in the filing of numerous charges for violations of the fish and game laws as well,” Old said in the release.
