Emporia Alumni
Basketball Classic
The Emporia High boys basketball team will be holding the Emporia Alumni Basketball Classic on Saturday at Emporia High School.
Five games are scheduled to be played that day, with teams made up of players according to the decade in which they played at EHS. Teams will be split between odd and even years.
The first game of the day will begin at noon and will feature players from the 1960s or earlier. The 1970s game will begin at 2 p.m., the 1980s game will begin at 4:30 p.m., the 1990s game will begin at 6 p.m. and the 2000s game will begin at 8 p.m.
There is a $10 fee for each player that wants to participate in the Alumni Classic. The fee helps pay for an Alumni Classic T-shirt.
Those interested can send their name, graduating class and entry fee to coach Rick Bloomquist, Emporia High School, 3302 West 18th, Emporia, KS, 66801, or call 343-5102.
Hornet Baseball
Hitting Camp
The Emporia State baseball team will be holding hitting camps for players age 14 through 18 from 9 a.m. to noon on Jan. 5, 12, 19 and 20. The camps will be held at ESU's HPER Building, which is located on the north end of Welch Stadium.
The camp will cover the fundamentals of hitting and bunting with individual instruction. It will take place in two gyms on the lower level of the HPER Building, which includes batting cages and area for drills. Video will be taken and gone over with each player.
Registration forms can be found on the Emporia State baseball team's Web site, www.emporia.edu/athletics/baseball.
Cost is $50, and checks can be made payable to Emporia State Baseball.
