Donation to memorial

This morning, the Emporia All-Veterans Memorial received one of the biggest donations it has ever received in a lump sum during the Emporia Main Street Board of Directors Meeting.

It was not a huge amount, but Frank Lowery of the All-Veterans Memorial gratefully accepted the donation of $450. The money was the proceeds from the Freedom Fest, which was held on Nov. 4.

“We greatly appreciate this,” Lowery said. “This is probably the biggest donation we’ve ever received.”

Lowery said the All-Veterans memorial is in need of new brochures and the $450 donation will come in handy when they order them.

Lucky Santa

Santa Claus is the lucky winner of a raffle to benefit the Peter Pan Playground project.

The right jolly old elf held the winning ticket for the fancy handmade playhouse. Raffle tickets were sold for $5. The playhouse was made by Williams Automotive, Sutherland’s, Countrywide Home Loans, Bill Redeker Construction and Deputy Police Chief Mike Williams and donated to the playground project.

The raffle brought in nearly $1,600. All proceeds go to the Peter Pan Playground fund.

What will Santa do with the 12-foot playhouse, which features a front porch and a shingled roof? Of course, he doesn’t intend to keep it for himself. He’ll double-check his list of naughty and nice children and choose whom to give the playhouse to.

Santa or his elves will deliver the playhouse to its new home shortly.
