After-prom donations
For the past 18 years, Madison junior and senior parents have had an After Prom Party for the students who attend the Madison High School Prom. The purpose is to provide fun and substance-free entertainment for the kids after the prom.
The 2008 prom is scheduled for April 19, 2008 to be followed once again by the After Prom Party. All of the juniors and seniors attending, along with their dates, will be provided with food, entertainment, games and prizes. All of this requires time along with donations of money and/or prizes.
Parents are seeking donations to aid in making this an evening the kids will enjoy. Contributions of any type are needed and greatly appreciated. Gifts or donations may be mailed to Madison After Prom, c/o Carol Porter, Box 142, Madison, KS 66860 or dropped off at City Hall, 225 W. Main in Madison. Donations also can be picked up by calling Carol Porter at (620) 437-2556 or 6409; or Karen McIlvain at (620) 437-2600.
Leadership academy
Washburn University will once again be host for “Come to the Edge,” the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) for soon-to-be high school sophomores and juniors from June 1 through 7 on the Washburn campus. The news release said the week includes “leadership development activities, fun and even a few surprises.” Participants will be challenged to “come to the edge” through various activities including a ropes course challenge, a day of service to the community and various leadership laboratories. Those who wish to attend should talk to their counselor and ask for an application. There is a $25 application fee and the local Rotary Club pays the rest of the cost.
