In a relatively short action meeting on Thursday, Lyon County commissioners decided to table the issue of what to do with the speed limit on Road U, Road 200 and Road S until March.
Lyon County commissioners on Wednesday discussed raising the speed limit on Road U to 55 miles per hour from 35 miles per hour, but on Thursday still didn’t have a decision. Commissioner Bob Davis suggested the issue be tabled until March, which is closer to the time when the first phase of Westar Energy’s Emporia Energy Center is scheduled to be up and running. County Counselor Michael Halleran said there’s no specified time limit to tabling an issue as long as they give a specific date. The date commissioners chose is March 27, 2008.
“After discussion yesterday and to stop confusion and to protect construction workers and area residents, we decided to leave the speed limit as it is,” Miller said. The posted speed limit is now 35 mph.
Commissioners voted unanimously on the motion to table the issue.
