Season of light

During the holiday season, a favorite pastime for the family is driving around and looking at the Christmas lights.

The lighted displays evoke oohs and aahs from my girls and they claim bragging rights for whoever can spot the Christmas lights first.

As we canvass neighborhoods this year, it seems like there are not as many houses lighted up as there were in previous years. On many blocks, it seems as if more houses are without lights than with lights.

What is your opinion? Are there fewer lights up than there were five, 10 or 20 years ago?

If you want to see Christmas lights this weekend, head over to DeLane Drive near the Flinthills Mall. Every house will be lighted. This is also the weekend that Santa will be there passing out candy canes to passersby as well as accepting presents and canned food to give to families in need.

Santa and the lighted fun will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

We haven't went on our light hunting excursion yet this year, but from just driving around town in the evenings on errands, I have noticed less lights. It could be from people starting to be a little more energy conscious.
We will enjoy what we see as we do every year, but watch out for those LED lights...those bright little things could temporarily blind you!
