Madison program rescheduled
The Madison Elementary School Christmas program will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the school. The program had been postponed because of inclement weather.
Bids still being taken
A silent auction of decorated Christmas trees, a mirror featuring race-car driver Dale Earnhart Jr., and a tool set will be continued through noon Monday at the Emporia State Federal Credit Union, 310 W. 12th Ave.
Ice-packed streets during last weekend’s “Festival of Trees” at the Flinthills Mall discouraged travel to the event, and caused its sponsor to extend the deadline for bids and move the bidding location to the credit union. The festival is sponsored by the Emporia Brown Express Athletic Club.
Club spokesman Gilbert Rodriguez said that in addition to the trees, the auction will include a large mirror holding the likeness of Dale Earnhart Jr., donated by Mussatto Brothers of Osage City, and a tool set valued at $70 and donated by AutoZone.
People interested in bidding will need to go to the credit union to make bids. Bidding will continue until noon on Monday.
“If anybody wants to make donations, we’re more than glad to have it,” Rodriguez said. “Every dollar, every penny, helps.”
Proceeds will be divided among the Emporia State University Hornet Scholarship Fund, the Salvation Army, and a fund to help with medical expenses for Landon Dody, who was born with a chronic illness that affects his lungs and digestive system.
