Emporia State guard DeAndre Townsend was named the MIAA player of the week, the league announced Monday.
Townsend, a 5-foot-8 point guard from Minneapolis, Minn., averaged 31.5 points, 4.5 assists and two steals in the Hornets’ two losses last week.
The senior scored 24 points against Newman on Wednesday night, adding four assists and three steals before missing the final six minutes with leg cramps.
On Saturday, he scored a career-high 39 points against No. 22 Nebraska-Omaha, making 6 of 11 three-point attempts. He was 12-for-21 from the field and made 9 of 10 free throws.
The point guard also chipped in five assists and a steal.
