Treacherous travel conditions over the weekend forced the cancellation of a fundraiser planned by Emporia Brown Express to benefit several organizations, including the ESU Hornet Scholarship Fund. Trees decorated as part of the first Kansas Festival of Christmas Trees were to be auctioned Sunday at the Flinthills Mall.
In place of the auction, Gilbert Rodriguez, event organizer, says the Emporia State Federal Credit Union, 312 W. 12th Ave., will coordinate telephone bids for the trees and other donated items through noon Friday. Bids will be accepted by phoning the credit union office at 342-2336.
The trees remain on display at the Flinthills Mall. Bidders will call the credit union office to place bids on any of the nine decorated Christmas trees and sports memorabilia. High bidders will be notified by phone following the close of the silent auction Friday.
