What’s in a name?

I have been following the recent dispute regarding the name of Emporia’s annual Christmas Program/Seasonal Celebration.
Recently, two editorial opinions appeared in The Gazette. One described the program as “meaningful and beautiful.” The other view used such terms as “mediocre and cheap.”
I had the privilege of directing the program for 37 years. I and many others collaborated to make the format acceptable to citizens of our town with other religious backgrounds. Fortunately, we survived this “crisis,” and the program has continued.
We might hold a record of some kind. The program involves all sixth grade students, all music students: band, orchestra and vocal, grades seven through 12, interpretive dancers and students from the drama department. It is presented two nights in the Civic Auditorium and is always well attended.
This year will be the 72nd consecutive presentation of the program. Do we really want to end this tradition because of a name?
I encourage everyone to attend the program and continue to support the youth of Emporia.

After reading Mr. Grants opinion above I am reminded again of the differing opinions about the war "I may not support the war, but I support the warrior."
Being aware of the time talents and effort that goes into the annual Seasonal Celebration, Christmas Program, or however you refer to it, we must remember that we attend not only to celebrate a holiday, but to support, encourage, and applaud those who plan, and participate.
What is being done speaks far louder than what it is being labeled as and what is being done is a reflection of what talents and abilities those involved possess--aren't we the fortunate ones to be INVITED to watch their performance.
Accept the invitation, or don't, the choice if yours.

Since the gazette poll showed over 80% support returning the name, why don't we vote out each board member who did not support it and did what they wanted?
