Two dogs died in a structure fire that completely destroyed a home at 526 S. Congress St., Lot No. 9 Sunday evening. The occupants of the home were not injured.
Steve Rhoads, acting officer and captain of the Emporia Fire Department, said both Fire Station No. 1 and Fire Station No. 2 responded to the fire, which originated in the living room area. According to the Emporia/Lyon County siren log, the call came in at 8:01 p.m.
Rhoads said the family was at home at the time and were able to get out. Names weren’t available this morning. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
