It didn’t take long for the Emporia State indoor track and field teams to pick up their first provisional qualifiers of the new season.
At the Kansas State Carol Robinson Pentathlon on Friday, Craig Saalfeld and Jennifer Robinson both provisionally qualified for Nationals with their marks in the high jump.
Saalfeld jumped 6-foot-9, later finishing seventh in the pentathlon, while Robinson’s 5-foot, 6 1/2-inch high jump was the third-best indoor high jump in school history. She also finished seventh in the pentathlon.
Roger Bertsche placed eighth in the men’s pentathlon, and Ryan Green took 10th on the women’s side despite fouling in all her attempts in the long jump.
The rest of the ESU indoor track and field team will begin its season today at the KSU All Comers Meet in Manhattan.
