Each Friday, The Gazette salutes those who make Emporia and the surrounding area a better place to live and work. The following folks deserve a pat on the back ...
John Schwenn who accepted a job as president of Dalton State College in Georgia. Schwenn has been vice president for academic affairs at Emporia State University since 1997.
- Sue Jones, who published a book “Crack Up at the Wake of Dawn.” This is the second book she has published.
- Donors who have given money to the United Way. The campaign is in the final month and the organization is $80,000 away from reaching the fundraising goal.
- Organizers and participants of the TFI auction. The event raised $18,000 and the money will be used to buy Christmas presents for foster children.
- The Loretto Langley Trust, which gave a $10,000 grant to The Learning Connection so the Emporia Farmers Market can continue next year.
- The Reeble and Graham families, who have owned and operated Emporia’s oldest grocery chain. Rudolph Reeble founded Reeble’s grocery stores in 1883.
