A report of a student with a weapon at Emporia High School turned out to be unfounded, officials said Wednesday.
“Another student reported it to a school administrator,” said Nancy Horst, director of community relations for the district. “The school administration took it very seriously and acted immediately.”
The police were called and responded quickly, Horst said.
Once at the school, police contacted the student in question, according to Mike Williams, Emporia deputy police chief.
“We determined there was no credible threat toward any student or faculty member at the high school,” Williams said.
No weapon was found on the student or in his vehicle.
According to Horst, the entire incident happened before school began at 8 a.m.
No name has been released, although Horst said the student is a senior at the school.
