Northern Heights girls beat Hope in overtime to pick up 1st victory

The Northern Heights girls used a second-half comeback and a strong overtime to pick up their first victory of the season, a 57-55 decision over Hope on Tuesday night.

“I thought that it was a pretty ugly game,” Heights coach Tim Riemann said, “but we showed some fight and came away with a win.”

The Ladycats trailed 28-21 at the break but out-scored Hope 15-9 in the third quarter to get back in the game.

“The girls did a good job of coming out in the second half and being more aggressive on both the offensive and defensive end,” Riemann said.

Heights held a 13-11 advantage in the overtime period.

Sarah Boline paced the Ladycats, scoring 26 points to go with 12 rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Leann Baird added seven points and three boards, while Amy Boline had nine rebounds.

Kristin Lorson and Taylor Sly posted 16 points apiece for Hope.

Lyndon 40, Chase County 35

Tuesday night’s game ended in a heartbreaking loss for the Chase County Lady Bulldogs, as Lyndon took the five-point victory.

Although they led for the majority of the game, the Bulldogs lost their advantage late.

“Our team played really well,” Chase County coach Gene Windle said. “We had a very paced and organized game.”

Kylee Scott had a game-high 15 points, 11 of which came in the first half. The scoring went along with her eight rebounds.

Behind Scott was Sequoia Shull and Aubrey Watts, Chase County’s two point guards. Shull ended the game with nine points, and Watts had three.

Ashley Cahoone added six points.

Lyndon’s Stephanie Goetz made a considerable impact as well. With 12 points, Goetz was her team’s highest scorer.

“Defensively we just went out and played very well,” Windle said. “We kept our composure for most of the game. It was very close.”

Hartford 50, Flinthills 21

Hartford got a game-high 20 points from Amy Bolen, and the Lady Jaguars outscored Flinthills by a combined 30 points in the second and third quarters to run past Flinthills, 50-21, Tuesday night in Hartford.

After Flinthills took a 5-4 lead after the first quarter, Hartford began to heat up, outscoring the Lady Mustangs 17-3 in the second quarter and 22-6 in the third to capture a 43-14 advantage by the end of the third quarter. Bolen led the charge in the middle two periods, scoring 14 of her 20 points in the second and third frames.

Kellie Farr added nine points and Paige Hamman had eight for Hartford, which improved to 1-3. Caitlin Nelson led Flinthills with eight points.
