Joe is still trying his luck at deer hunting. He has two more days left to hunt with shotgun here in Michigan. The snow we had is mostly all gone, but it’s a cool 27 and windy. The snow made it a little easier to track deer.
Joe’s successful deer hunt last week has given us some good meat. We cut up all the deer meat this week and now we have the tenderloin and some steaks in the freezer. The rest we chunked to have made into deer sausage. Are there any readers that would have a deer recipe to share? I’d like to try different ways to prepare the meat. One thing I want to try is making “deer jerky,” as it sounds good.
We are invited to Joe’s grandmother’s birthday who on Sunday is will turn 94. We would love to go but she lives in Berne, Indiana and the trip back and forth gets expensive due to rising gas prices. The drivers have to charge more to make up for the expense. So we decided not to go. We do wish her God’s blessings on her birthday and good health in the future.
It is hard to believe that we are already well into December. The holidays are approaching fast and all the family gatherings are being planned.
Joe’s family will get together at his sister’s house where his Dad also lives on December 15 for brunch at 10 a.m. On the evening of December 14 we are invited to a Christmas gift exchange in our community. This is for all the Amish children in this area that are home-schooled. Our pre-schoolers also exchanged names as well. This gives the home-schooled children and the younger ones still at home something to look forward to.
On December 29 sister Liz and Levi have plans to have the Coblentz family Christmas gathering. Next year it will be our turn to have it here at our house. We are going in order of oldest to youngest as to who takes a turn to have it each year. The family has increased to a total of 63 now. My parents have four married grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Three year old Lovina and two year old Kevin are playing with their rocking horse as I write this. They both get on it at the same time They can really entertain each other but they have their times when they both want the same toy at the same time.
Then later on you’ll see the same toy laying there and nobody wants it. Kevin comes to tattle to me but I can only understand some of his words. Lovina can entertain herself sitting at her little table writing with a pencil and paper. Although one day she decided to write on my wall which didn’t make me too happy. It will be helpful to her when she starts school that she likes to write and color.
Elizabeth is outside doing the morning chores in the barn. I want to go add coal to the coal stove and then give Elizabeth her spelling test when she comes in. She’s doing a great job in home-school although she misses her friends and teachers at school.
Readers have asked for my pumpkin pie recipe. This is good to fix during the holidays, or you can cut it out of the paper and save it for next Thanksgiving!
