The winners of the Americus Historic Holiday 2007 parade were:
- Best use of parade theme — Charles Schubert with a decorated train and many passengers;
- Most original use of lights — Heather Myers and relatives on decorated bicycles and shoe skates;
- Judges’ Choice — Americus Chamber of Commerce reindeer float which was driven by Dale Grimsley.
The judges were Ila Mae Edgett, Bob and Jackie Edmiston. The parade was announced by Cory Anderson, and Santa Claus arrived on a fire truck driven by Garland Hendrickson.
Crafts for Kids in the Americus Township Library was attended by parents and kids, including Tracey and Cadee West; Lakota, Tee and Trey Preisner; Matthew and Lori Maxson; Kami, Katie and Suzanne Miller; Alec, Keira, Jessica and Jerry Tucker; Heather, Caleigh, Courtney and Jana Smart; Brooke and Frances Mealman. Ila Engler from the ESU Teachers of Tomorrow conducted the crafts session with the assistance of the librarians, Anita Westcott, Sandi Simmons and parents.
After the crafts session, pictures were taken with Santa Claus by Helen Nielsen at the Breckinridge County Cafe. Santa also gave out candy canes. Hot chocolate was served by the Americus Chamber of Commerce vice-president Melissa Rich, after the parade to the audience for the Emporia Community Theatre’s presentation of “Hank the Cow Dog.”

Members who attended the general meeting of the tractor group Sunday afternoon were president, Elton Jensen; vice-president, Mark Say; secretary, Byron Yeager; historian/editor, Belle Grimsley; board members, Cecil Cunningham, Jason Gilliland, Rob Gordon, Tim Johnson, and Gary Watts. The annual dinner and meeting will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 19 in the Emporia Masonic Temple. Dues will include a calendar, membership card, EDGE membership and a directory. To be included in the directory, dues must be paid by March 1. For information, contact Elton Jensen, 342-6011.
