Americus — Several kids in Americus considered themselves lucky Saturday afternoon — they got to have lunch with Santa.
It was a day full of activities for Americus residents as the town celebrated the upcoming Christmas holiday. Activities included a craft session for kids, soups and desserts served by the Presbyterian church members, a holiday parade and a performance by the Emporia Community Theatre, presenting “Hank the Cowdog.” The final sesquicentennial luncheon also was held in the school district office meeting room.
Before having lunch with Santa, kids had a craft session at the Americus Public Library. The Breckenridge County Cafe in Americus was filled to the brim during lunch with Santa. Lakota Preisner, 12, and her brothers Tee, 5, and Trey, 8, talked about the crafts they made while they munched on corn dogs and tater tots.
Lakota pulled out the crafts which included picture frames made out of craft sticks, a glitter Christmas tree decorated with stickers and a snowman made out of cotton balls.
“It was fun,” Lakota said. “It was the first time I’ve ever done it. I helped out the other kids. There were a whole bunch of kindergartners.”
It wouldn’t be a Santa visit without revealing what you want for Christmas.
“You want Care Bears,” Tee said, addressing his sister. “I don’t know what I want.”
Tee later said he wanted Hot Wheels for Christmas.
Trey, however, had a long list.
“I want a new bike, a mouthpiece for my football helmet and a BB gun,” Trey said, adding that he wanted the BB gun because he’s in 4-H.
Lakota’s wishes include a bike and a new basketball but also some non-material things.
“I want my family there because my grandma died a little bit ago,” Lakota said quietly.
