Olpe’s Woods, Flott combine for 42 in Lady Eagles' 68-37 victory over West Elk

Saturday, December 1, 2007

The Lady Eagles rolled to a 68-37 victory over West Elk in the season opener Friday night thanks to two big performances — one from a senior and one from a freshman.

Senior Megan Woods led all scorers with 23 points while freshman Cathryn Flott chipped in 19 in her first high school game.

“(Megan) was solid — nothing real flashy. She did what she was supposed to do,” Olpe coach Jesse Nelson said. “Cathryn, for her first game out, I looked for her to be pretty nervous, but I thought she played a solid game on both ends of the floor.”

Olpe (1-0) wasted little time building a lead, as the Lady Eagles enjoyed a 10-point edge by the end of the first period. By halftime, Olpe led 43-26 and already had played 10 players. A 16-6 run in the third quarter all but sealed it for the Lady Eagles.

“I thought it was good first night out,” Nelson said. “We ran the floor well, and we played pretty good defense, at least at times. I thought some of our young kids in particular came in off the bench and played real well.”
