Money for Howe House
The Lyon County Historical Society will use a grant from the Trusler Foundation to repair the historic Richard Howe House farmstead.
Greg Jordan, executive director of the historical society, said the grant is for $8,900.
“The Lyon County Historical Society is grateful to the Trusler Foundation for providing much-needed funds to our cause and to many, many other worthwhile causes in Emporia and the area,” Jordan said.
The farmstead was built in the 1860s and remains in the same condition as it was while three generations of Howes lived there, Jordan said.
The Howe House was donated to the Lyon County Historical Society in 1997. The historical society will have a living history day at the Howe House on Oct. 7.
“There will be crafts people performing a number of interesting skills,” Jordan said.
There also will be a camp fire meal for sale at a cost of $8 a meal.
