Heights’ Symmonds takes title at Jefferson West

Northern Heights senior Pete Symmonds started his cross country season in style, taking first place Thursday at the Jefferson West Invitational. Symmonds finished the 5,000-kilometer course in a time of 18 minutes, 48 seconds.
Other top finishers for the Heights boys were junior Chris Seematter in seventh and freshman Brian Hultgren in 26th.
Gesina Miller paced the Northern Heights girls, placing 11th in a time of 19:15 on the two-mile course. Senior Bailey Zeigler also had a strong day, finishing 14th.
Northern Heights will hold its home invitational at The Orchard on Sept. 13.
Chase County volleyball drops 2
The Chase County volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Wednesday, falling in two sets to both St. Mary’s (25-18, 25-10) and Mission Valley (25-19, 25-23).
Against St. Mary’s, Allison Hartley paced Chase County with two kills and three digs, while Desiree Smith had five digs. Ashley Cahoone, Robin Grokett and Kylee Scott each added a kill for Chase County.
In the second match against Mission Valley, Cahoone came away with four kills, Scott had five digs and Hartley had four blocks.
