Living in the country you get to enjoy the peace and quiet, and this is especially enjoyable in the evening.
However, the other night I was sitting on the back deck and the noise from the cicadas was almost deafening.
The city commission last week considered setting up quiet zones in the city to help deal with train noise in Emporia.
I don’t know whether other rural residents are experiencing the blaring noise from the cicadas but I wonder whether the county commission needs to look into setting up some quiet zones in the county.
